I am very excited about how the new site is coming together, so I wanted to share a preview of the look and feel of the upcoming version.

I'd love to hear everyone's feedback.

Mark, Will the new WIRES have a place for Comments, or will there be something different - like a rating system? I don't really care one way or the other.

Wires will have a rating which can shift based on feedback; they may still have comments as well, still on the fence. If I remove comments, then I will add a "Blog About This Wire" Feature which would let users specifically reference a certain wire and generate a blog to discuss.

Looks great! When do you plan on launching it?

Looks great! Of course, a few of us on the West Coast may want to see something other than Washington DC all the time. Wait, that's Washington for you on the East, and DC for us on the West! Kidding, it really looks clean! Great job!

Only one problem... Pittsburgh has an "h" on the end of it... :-) Looks great.

It's hard to tell from the design mock-up -- but I really hope the user interface is improved. I find it really clunky right now to enter a bunch of plates in one sitting, and the search function is hard to use if you're trying to search for multiple plates or variations of a single plate. I've (mostly) stopped using the site for these reasons. I'd also like to see some accommodation for some of the oddities in license plates, like the fact that multiple vehicles in Mass. can have the same plate number. Thanks for your hard work!

The site looks great. I hope it has a feature to change your licence plate number. Florida issues a new plate every five years, and so do other states.
Other than that it looks great.

With the header image, I think we'll be using skylines from the user's designated location, or perhaps just cycle through different city skylines across the globe.
The User Interface/User eXperience, will be vastly improved, including some features to accomodate for funky plates, such as handicapped, diplomat, etc. And yes, plate registration functionality has been completely re-written, (free) users will be able to add up to 5 plates which they can receive automatic notices of wires filled and notices when registrations are due. Along with plate registration (which will become Vehicle registration) we will be tying into the NHSTA database to notify users of any possible recalls or defects with their registered vehicles.
I am also working on extending PlateWire's functionality to allow users to forward copies of wires filled to police/ traffic enforcement for jurisdiction where the incident occured.
To be realistic on a timeframe, I am shooting for Jan. 2008, but would like to launch sooner. Between work and family it has been difficult to devote more than 15-20 hours per week to this, but I am trucking forward.
Thanks for all of the comments and feedback. Remember I am always looking for your suggestions, comments, gripes!

just wondering why you don't use text for plate numbers, that way the search engines would see it & people could google the tag number, just use the plate image as a background & text over top of it.

I believe the images aid recognition more so than just HTML; I always include the text of the plate as well, including the image ALT tag which helps with search engines.
